When the merchant guilds controlled commerce advertising was greatly restricted. Even today, some countries still restrict advertising such that you can only talk about the product or company and not make comparisons to anything else. Advertising is often a often costly, but (as you will find here) there are means available to the common person/ business with strict budget. What information is given below is done so in alphabetical order and not by cost effectiveness. Advertising MethodsIn the old days advertising was not permitted. Today, it is an essential part of any business. Advertising can be quite expensive but there are several free to inexpensive forms available. I have listed in alphabetical order rather than cost or effectiveness.
Advertising Co-OpAdvertising co-ops are similar to traffic exchanges and ad networks, except you usually have to buy advertising slots in the co-op. The cost of posting the advertising is then shared by all the advertisers. Advertising NetworksAdvertising networks are similar to traffic exchanges in that you place a code allowing a set of adds on your site in exchange for your ad being in a slot on someone else's site in the network. They generally want you to put it on al the pages in your site, but this one from Enigneseeker.com is listed on this page as an example. Where you place the code determines where it shows up on your page.
Banner AddsBanner adds are general sold by the number impressions (time shown) and on average cost about $10-20/ 10,000 impressions. The affiliate you associated with usually has a section that provides you with banner adds that can list, so you usually don't have to make them. Many places sell this form of advertising. The the advertising site is related to what you are selling the more likely you are to get clicks, but you generally get 2-20 clicks/ 10,000 impressions. Certain times of day and days of the week are more effective, but that also varies according to what you are marketing.
Banner KeyringsThis is a form of advertising multiple banners as if it were one. The banners are put on a cycle at whatever location you place your add and each banner in the key ring is rotated/cycled through. On site where you are limited by the number of banners you can show this is quite useful because you can put up to 10 banners in one keyring and it only counts as one.
Traffic Exchanges These are sites where you can earn credits towards to posting banner impressions or gaining website traffic. New ones launch often so this list is neither complete nor, most likely, up to date. A search for traffic exchanges could should you more.
E-zine advertisingAn Ezine stands for electronic magazine. Just like paper magazines they sell space for advertisements. Do a search for "ezine" and you get over 10,000,000 hits. Some are places that take your add and place them on ezines for you (for a cost of course) others have a list of ezines or how to market to them etc.
Key Points and Benefits
Guaranteed Signups/ Traffic This is a form of paid advertising. The one you pay "guarantees" that they will provide you with either people who sign up to your program or visit your website, depending on what you ask for. Guaranteed visitors do not guarantee any real interest in what you are promoting and is not usually not recommended by most multi-level marketing companies.
Key Points and Benefits
Hyperspace advertising This allows a small pop up window to show up in the upper right corner of your wed page. It can be closed or left alone and does not interfere with the page viewing. One is added to this add on this page so you can see what it looks like.
Key Points and Benefits
Lead Sources If you intend any kind of e-mail or phone calling campaign then you need a source of prospects. Lead sources can be list providers or clubs. These can also be called "safe lists." One such source is The Lead Club. Advertisers post their free advertisement on our network of over 10,000 web pages. In exchange for their free ad the advertisers agree to receive one confirmation message from each of our pro members per advertisement they submitted.
Mailspace advertising An advertisement is placed at the top or bottom of every e-nail you send out to others.
Pay Per Click advertising Search engines like Google and Yahoo and all the others make available "pay per click" advertising. In this form of advertising you create various add campaigns, pick keyword phrases to trigger your add, decide how much you are willing to spend and then pay for each click or active response to you add.
Key Points and Benefits
Peel away adds These are an alternative to pop ups and pop unders. If you have a website then you can add these to your site.
